Colts Neck Tries To Cope With Increasing Deer Population

COLTS NECK — The township has a problem. Its symptoms manifest themselves in broken car windshields, shredded foliage and gloomy medical diagnoses of residents. Colts Neck officials have said the troubles could be pinned to an unhealthy spike in the number of deer in town. “The proliferation of the deer population has made the township’s streets unsafe, increased the chances of Lyme disease, ruined acres of cropland and trampled the landscapes of most residential properties,” said Township Committeeman Thomas Orgo, who sits on the deer control subcommittee.
