Lyme disease fight leads to soap box derby

Since Janulee Shirvis’ daughter Desiree Rose White was diagnosed with Lyme disease two years ago, Shirvis has been looking for a way to inform the public about the debilitating disease. Shirvis recently spotted a lime green soap box derby car at a local outdoor event and decided to sponsor the car in the All American Soap Box Derby, set for Saturday, May 7. If the car and driver qualify for the nationals in Akron, Ohio, that will bring further exposure, Shirvis said.
