However, young woman has made great strides after being diagnosed nine years ago.

NORTH BRUNSWICK — At the age of 18, most graduating seniors are focused on driving to school, picking out a prom dress, filling out college applications and making plans for after graduation. Alaina, of North Brunswick, is doing exactly that. However, something has made her journey more of a struggle, yet more special: she has had Lyme disease for nine years. At the age of 9, Alaina, who prefers her last name not be published, began feeling sick. She had been to Stokes State Forest during fifth grade and came down with some unidentified symptoms for months following the October trip. She accumulated a number of isolated sick days, but it didn’t seem to be a problem until one day in February when she could not get off the couch.
