Montana: Andrew Peterson

As Dr. Jemsek states, “sooner or later” your family will be affected by this growing disease and you, too, will be trying to make a difference.

“In the Lymelight” ~ Andrew Peterson

Andrew is a son, father, husband, author, composer, musician, psychotherapist, blogger, and entrepreneur. He currently has a Blog called The Next Ten Minutes – everyday mindfulness where his blogs are based upon his experience and “explorations of many subjects which emanate from these disciplines”. In addition, he is “blogging about mindfulness, music, masculinity and many other subjects”. Andrew’s hopes are that you will feel it is worth your time to read the various posts that he has written with a “common thread … an effort to approach our everyday experience with an attitude of mindful acceptance.” He is the author of the book, The Next Ten Minutes: 51 Absurdly Simple Ways to Seize the Moment.

NextTenMinutesHe works from his home “composing music for a variety of projects including independent films, dance performances, and audiobooks.” He attained his doctorate in Counseling from the University of Montana. His training includes neuroscience and trauma. As a volunteer with the Red Cross shortly after Hurricane Katrina, he “spent several life-transforming weeks as a volunteer mental health worker.” He also maintains “a small private practice, working primarily with men,” his approach “integrates the themes of attachment, mindfulness, trauma and authentic masculinity.” He also teaches classes in Ethics and Diagnosis at the University of Montana.

Recently in 2010, he spent two years searching for answers “to a set of mysterious and increasingly debilitating physical symptoms.” His diagnosis- Chronic Lyme Disease. As he wrestles to deal with his newfound chronic illness, he hopes to raise an awareness of Lyme Disease and the other tick-borne diseases. “As I struggle to make sense of my new life with a chronic illness, I’ve made an effort to bring all of my past work and experience with emotional regulation and mindfulness into the effort.”
