Steven C. Schimmel: Only part of the Lyme disease story

The irony of the headline of the Aug. 9 front-page article “Things you don’t know about Lyme disease” struck me like a lightning bolt. As a son of a parent who died from Lyme disease complications and the parent of a son battling chronic Lyme, we know that the article tells only part of the story. There is much more to know about Lyme disease. First, the under-reporting is not only a result of a change in Rhode Island’s data collection, but that of poor performance of the test itself (about 50 percent accurate). Read more.
