Doctor Under Fire – Coincidence?

I am not privy to the entire reason(s) for the initiation of the investigation of this physician, Dr. X. However, it seems very coincidental that, in my experience, many of these physicians that have had their licenses suspended for deficiencies such as patient interviewing and communication skills, record keeping, overall medical knowledge or deficient diagnostic procedures and hesitant speech patterns seem to be highly questionable.

It also seems a bit unnerving that I have seen this type of proceedings before and it appears that they have a similar thread in common. That is, they stand outside of the norm. One of which I find interesting, is working with chronic Lyme patients.

In a letter it stated. “A significant portion of his practice is treating patients with chronic Lyme disease. His patients often come from hours away to see him…In the broader medical community, the diagnosis and treatment of chronic Lyme disease is controversial; however, he appears to adhere to diagnostic and testing protocols that have been developed by medical groups with interest in this area of medicine.”

It may be a fluke per se.

However, it does get one thinking: Did this physician receive a letter from the School of Medicine and Public Health because they were genuinely concerned of his interviewing, record keeping or diagnostic procedures? Or, was this initiated by some one that had a personal agenda in mind?

This physician, Dr. X, has been very accommodating in working with the School of Medicine and has supplied all of what was asked of him. However, Dr. X, has been required to attend a hearing later this month. There also has been a Petition filed to have Dr. X’s medical license suspended immediately until a final decision is declared by the state’s Medical Examining Board.

I know how I was addressed when I did not fit the “one size fits all” mold and asked for additional treatment for Lyme Disease, which as a result became a chronic problem. And as of today, I have no lingering symptoms or “post Lyme-Syndrome” as a result of the treatment I received outside the norm. Based on my experience and what I have discovered surrounding this disease, I would want to actually know more or do what I could to assist Dr. X.

I would try to send a letter to the person in charge of this investigation stating the following:

1. How you were misdiagnosed

2. How Dr. X’s treatment has helped you progress

3. The effect Dr. X’s treatment has had on you and your family.

4. How removal of Dr. X’s license would affect you and your family.

As most of you know, from what we have witnessed in the past, an order to suspend Dr. X’s license immediately can mean that Dr. X may have to endure years of a long and tedious process to get it reinstated.

If you have read this and think that this type of thing cannot happen, or that I may be on the border of being paranoid, then you may want to look at some of the past events involving those physicians that decided to do what is necessary to help their patients.
