Dr. Kathleen Spreen, an osteopath who recently published a scholarly yet humorous compendium on Lyme disease, told more than 35 Lyme patients — gathered recently as a support group in Georgetown — to never give up on healing their disease and improving their quality of life. According to Spreen, a Chester County physician who is dedicating her retirement years to helping those suffering from Lyme, the world of tick-borne disease is “complex, convoluted and controversial.” Spreen says she and her husband had bouts with Lyme, but she turned her full attention to the disease in 2007 when her son, Chris, an aeronautical engineer, became so sick from Lyme she feared he wouldn’t survive.
