An Indianola mother and daughter are working to educate the community about one of the fastest-growing diseases in the United States. Brooke Boden and her daughter, Emily Johnson, currently receive treatment for chronic Lyme disease, a bacterial infection transmitted by a tick. May is Lyme Disease Awareness month, and the mother-daughter team is joining the worldwide awareness effort in Indianola. “My goal in this small little town is to educate the public on what they’re looking for, and if the first doctor says ‘no,’ then you go to another one until you are an active role in your health care and getting yourself better and knowing the truth about Lyme disease,” Boden said last month.
