“In the Lymelight” ~ LEAP Arizona

Tina J. Garcia, is a daughter, patient advocate, Lyme Advocate, entrepreneur, and presenter at the IDSA Panel hearing. Tina is a very passionate advocate of patient’s rights and a firm believer in justice and fairness. In 2004 Lyme Disease disabled her and faced the hardships as many chronic Lyme sufferers do having her treatments denied by her medical insurance. She was very instrumental in CT Attorney General Blumenthal’s investigation into the standard treatment of Lyme Disease by the IDSA.

She continues to be outspoken in standing up for what’s right for those that continue to seek acknowledgement of Lyme Disease and their pain and suffering.  She also has been writing for the Public Health Alert for several years.

In 2005, despite losing her home and unable to pay for treatment, she set out to make a difference by establishing L.E.A.P Arizona to provide education, awareness, “and treatment information to government agencies, the medical community, laboratories, insurance companies and the public” of Lyme Disease; she also set her goal on providing financial assistance to patients that could not afford treatment.

L.E.A.P. Arizona is a non-profit, public charity dedicated to education and awareness of Lyme disease and other tick-borne infections in Arizona and across the United States. She desires “to help children and adults suffering with these debilitating infections and is dedicated to providing financial assistance to children and adults in Arizona and nationwide. Our goal is to alleviate some of the suffering associated with these infections by providing financial assistance, so that patients may obtain desperately-needed treatment of their choice and necessities of life.”

Also, in January 2011, she is planning to serve the Lyme and chronic illness patient community in a new way. She will be offering complimentary Life Coaching sessions to patients.
