LDOiowaWithin these groups across the United States and other countries, there are fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters and so forth. As Dr. Jemsek states, “sooner or later” your family will be affected by this growing disease and you, too, will be trying to make a difference.

“In the Lymelight” ~ Lyme Disease Organization of Iowa

Kris is a mother, daughter, sister, mother, wife, leader, community volunteer, teacher, advocate, group director, press/media coordinator, college adjunct professor/teacher and President.

The Lyme Disease Organization of Iowa (LDO) is under the Lyme Disease United Coalition (LDUC).Kris is the President of the LDO and the Chapter Leader/Coordinator of the Bremer County Area Lyme Disease/Hormone Support/Education Group and the administrator for the Facebook page of the Lyme Disease Support in Northeast Iowa.

krisAs a group, Kris, the Board of Directors and Area Advisors from around the state work diligently to bring awareness and education to inform the public about Lyme Disease and its treatment and diagnosis. She hopes that the teams’ efforts will make a difference. She is very thankful to the group members of approximately 50 that are very active by publicly sharing their stories to educate and inform and presenting “What is Lyme Seminars.”

Kris is driven to wear all these hats so that others will not fall under the same fate.“I never want anyone to have to go through the pain and agony that I did, of being misdiagnosed, sent to specialist after specialist all who could not put the pieces together.”Her efforts are concentrated so that others do not have to endure the financial and emotional burdens that come along with this debilitating disease. She goes on to say that “just the lack of education by both the public and medical professionals makes me do what I do to educate the people.”One of the major hurdles she has noticed in their efforts to educate is misinformation. That is, “physicians that want to follow CDC guidelines without an open mind towards cutting edge diagnosis and treatment options” and “medical professionals that deny Lyme is in Iowa.”
